I think he really embodies the infamous line, “The one standing in infinite glory is you; the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is 'you' and not the state of you.”

And Hua Cheng understands this very well. That is why he reassures Xie Lian instead of revealing his identity. He almost does it but then Jun Wu interrupts them. When at the end Xie Lian 'confesses' to Hua Cheng, on his own, his horrific actions in the past (according to himself), he is surprised that Hua Cheng was Wu Ming, and the ghost fire.
