WLJT originally signed on the air in March 1968 as a repeater site in Lexington, Tennessee for the PBS station in Memphis. All public television entities in Tennessee were owned and operated by the state through the department of Education.

WLJT -TV/DT participates in local and regional “job fairs” when they are held. WLJT -TV/DT employees accept invitations to speak to high school and college classes about broadcasting careers and current jobs.

WLJT-DT is currently accepting resumes for the position of part-time Master Control Operator. Successful candidates will work in our master control facilities, which are located on the UT-Martin campus.
