Funneling wind - Energy engineering general discussion | Eng
Jul 21, 2003 · The wind comes uninterrupted from the bay for over 20 Miles and then it’s a 70foot or so cliff. Anyway it is from a mostly steady direction and is of high velocity. The funnel would also serve to allow less than centered wind to still power the turbine (at 60deg from center the useful wind drops to less than 5%).
Gliding object - Wind tunnel procedure? - Aircraft engineering
Jan 12, 2010 · In a wind tunnel the weight is tared out anyway because the model won't have the correct mass or mass distribution to represent the full sized aircraft unless a lot of effort is expended. If required the force balance could be rotated so that the Lift direction was no longer perpendicular to the flow or just do the rotation transform on the ...
Wind Loads on Overhang - Structural engineering general ... - Eng …
Oct 5, 2005 · I am designing the attachment of cladding on the underside of a roof overhang using ASCE 7-05 for the wind load determination. The wind load determined by using the GCp factor from figure 6-11B, page 56 (overhang), is the total load on the overhang, including pressure from the upper and lower surfaces (ref: footnote 6).
Wind Loads on Fence - Structural engineering general discussion
Mar 13, 2002 · Any suggestions for designing wind load forces on a 6' aluminum fence (2x2 posts with (15) 5/8" square pickets)? I have a client that wants this fence engineered for 110 mph wind load according to the new Florida Building Code. Using ASCE 7-98, I ran numbers using the Trussed Tower...
Wind Load on Temporary Structures - Structural engineering
Dec 14, 2007 · I am looking for a little guidance on reducing the design wind load for a temporary structure with an approximate design life of 1 year. There is Table C6-7 of ASCE, but I am not for sure on how to use it. Do you just multiply the map wind speed from Fig 6-1 by the factor in the table corresponding to an MRI equal to the expected life span.
windbox design of burners - Ignition, Combustion and Detonation ...
Nov 7, 2001 · A windbox is a large cavity pressurised by FD or forced draft fans from which individual burners take their combustion air.
Wind Pressures on Louvers - Structural engineering general
May 9, 2011 · ASCE 7-05 section 6.5.2.2 states full wind pressures shall be used "unless approved test data or recognized literature demonstrate lower loads for the type of air permeable cladding being considered". Thus, I am in need of some testing or reports that address wind pressures on louvered systems.
Wind Pressure Coefficients 2 - Eng-Tips
Jun 23, 2016 · As the wind flows, from "left" to "right", the external pressure on the building's windward face (the wall on the left side) is positive. That is, the pressure is acting "towards" the windward face. Wind flowing over the top of the roof will experience some turbulent wind flow that leads to separation, causing negative external pressure on the ...
Gust effect factor in ASCE-7 - ASCE (civil) Code Issues - Eng-Tips
Apr 9, 2004 · Hence, the averaging time for the reference wind speed is diferent for diferent codes, British, Australian and Canadian codes use 1 hour, American ASCE-7, Mexican CFE, Brazilian code, 3 sec. Japaniese, Eurocode and China National Standard 10 minutes. In any case, the wind speed considered for design purposes is a mean wind speed.
ASCE 7-10 Canopy Wind Loads - Eng-Tips
Mar 9, 2006 · I am in the process of designing a small free-standing canopy (8 ft x 35 ft 8’-0” high). Design code is IBC 2015/ASCE7-10. The canopy has a few vertical columns and horizontal beams but no siding (there is roofing). Roof slope is 1:12. I am trying to calculate the story shear for the roof for wind loads (seismic is straight forward).
