
Why is my Onkyo receiver playing sound as PCM and not Dolby
Apr 22, 2010 · Whenever I watch TV, it always shows the audio as PCM on my receiver. I was watching Start Trek blu ray last night which has option of Dolby True HD but it was still showing as PCM on my receiver. I tried going into the menu on the TV to see if there was anything I could change but the option to change from PCM to Dolby was greyed out.

Jan 4, 2011 · When you run the ps3 it comes up on the display as 5:1 and sounds wicked, but when i run the sky hd it just says "PCM fs : 48Khz" on the display of the reciever. Alot of sources output 4 channel PCM as FlFrSblSbr which has poor support but quad or 4.0 support in DTS HD is universal. Dolby offer correct mappings for old Dolby 70mm sound ( Fl,Fr,C,Mono Surround) which is unsupported by multichannel PCM too.

May 7, 2012 · PCM PCM is practically never used these days, DTS-HD is the most commonly used format and will be automatically selected as the default when present, but TrueHD requires that you select it or you'd end up with SD Dolby Digital instead. No one knows why TrueHD encoded titles don't have the HD audio flagged as default?
