Arthur William Wermuth Jr. (May 3, 1915 – June 13, 1981), dubbed the "One-Man Army of Bataan," was a United States Army officer during World War II and a prisoner of war from April 1942 until August 1945. Wermuth was born in South Dakota, but raised in Chicago 's Lakeview neighborhood at 3631 N. Janssen Avenue. [1] .
