Durability/reliability 2024 WR250F vs WR450F - ThumperTalk
Dec 7, 2024 · Sure, I only took secondary roads and probably never punched it much past 70 mph, but it didn't miss a beat. The engine will accept a broad range of gearing; there's a guy on ADVrider who runs his 450 at 14/43 and gets almost 60 mpg (US). As for durability and reliability, I'd offer that the WR platform has a very solid reputation.
Let's Talk Gearing (WR-450) - WR400F/426F/450F - ThumperTalk
Oct 9, 2009 · I recently decided to go with a WR-450 for my first bike. (with the help of many of you) I have heard i may want to change gearing for my 50/50 split between street and trail. I have very little knowledge about gearing (I am counting on somebody to give me the basics of what all the numbers mean)...
KTM 450 EXC VS. Yamaha WR450F Pro's & Con's - ThumperTalk
Mar 26, 2004 · I've owned both. Sold the WR 400 and got the new 04 450 EXC. Carlsbad moto practice (old style track, not supercross)- WR is defintely better. Grade it as 7.5 on 10. The KTM gets a 6. A YZF 250 gets a 9. The KTM bottoms out in the rear and hits the tail light portion. Also the power band doesn't hit with excitement.
how yamaha wr450f compares to ktm 450 exc-f? - ThumperTalk
Jan 22, 2024 · The WR is going to be heavier and more compromised than the KTM. The clutch and brakes alone are worth the extra cost, plus the weight of the KTM will be less. FWIW - I exclusively rode and owned Japanese dirtbikes from for 20 years, but there is a reason my last two purchases have been from the KTM group (last three if you count my streetbike).
KTM 450 EXC vs WR450F - What Motorcycle Should I Buy?
Sep 13, 2016 · All great bikes! But, I'd have to give the edge to the WR in the reliability department as a dual sport. Hard to ignore the bulletproofness of the Yami mill. And, I love KTM! Not sure who told you that these were high maintain bikes. I've had a WR and a KTM 450. Both were oil and filter changes. Neither were babied but not abused.

WR450F, 2005-2009, the good, the bad, the ugly - ThumperTalk
Mar 11, 2014 · WR's are good bikes and every year for the most part Yamaha has done something to make a good bike better... What a WR isn't. 1:Super light. 2:Top level race bike, that doesn't mean 95% of us will be held back by any of it's shortcomings. 3: Easy to plate in many states. Stupid offroad only cert of origion sucks.. Check your local laws
WR250 vs WR450 - What Motorcycle Should I Buy? - ThumperTalk
For trails with 2nd and 3rd gear speeds, I don't see where a 450 is needed or the best choice. I tried that with a 2009 Honda CRF450X, and after 7 months, sold that bike and got a 2002 Yamaha WR250F. Much better because it felt lighter and easier to maneuver out on the trails, and a lack of power was not a problem at all.
Best and worst years of WR450 - WR400F/426F/450F - ThumperTalk
Feb 8, 2012 · This is true. 2003 is the first year of the WR 450. There were issues with the E-start but was easily fixed with the updated '04 parts. This is really the only year that comes to mind when looking for a WR 450. California riders need to be aware that '03 & '04 WR's were RED sticker which is a deal breaker for some.
