The Welter-Meunier P88 is a Group C sports prototype race car, designed, developed, and built by the French racing team Welter Racing, specifically to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year. It was designed and constructed according to the FIA's technical and sporting regulations for sports car racing. [1]

Encouraged by the speed shown in 1987, the small squad constructed a new car for 1988, which differed only in detail. Among the changes was a slightly larger engine, now good for 900 bhp at peak boost, and a revised rear suspension to allow for even bigger tunnels. Alongside the new P88, the team also fielded the P87, fitted with the same upgrades.

The WM P88 is sold without an engine but we understand that Gerard Welter still has the original engine and is willing to offer it separately. The estimate for this unique piece of Le Mans history is a very reasonable EUR 150,000 - 250,000.

The P88 differed from the P87 in having an even more powerful engine. Roger Dorchy officially broke the 400 km/h barrier at 405 km/h. The P87 was also used again.
