Apr 23, 2010 · Basically one is a road/race bike (vtr1000sp1/sp2/rc51) & the other (vtr1000f firestorm/superhawk) is a sport/tourer. Both Honda VTR1000's but 2 different bikes, Different frames, wheels, forks, swingarms, fairings, brakes, petrol tanks, triple clamps & the list goes on. There are only a four engine parts that are the same & thats it.

Frustrated and wanting to win, Honda designed and built its own V-twin race bike and dubbed it the RC51 (aka VTR1000 SP1 in Europe and Australia). In 2002 and 2004, the RC51 accomplished its mission and beat the “unbeatable” Ducatis of the time. Honda topped Ducati at their own game.

Dec 12, 2007 · The only thing the RVT and the VTR motors have in common is the v-twin configuration. From what I understand the XL1000 and the VTR1000 are the same motor. I'd have to assume that the XL might have different cam timing, ignition timing, transmission ratios, etc...
