Jun 11, 2022 · Self-installing a tow bar is not difficult once you have found all of the fixings to remove the bumper. There is a reinforcing bar behind it which is replaced by the tow bar. The difficult part is the wiring. This must be fed from connections at the front of the van and include recoding the Body Control Module.

Nov 28, 2023 · To install the tow bar you need to remove the original cross member behind the bumper & replace with a new cross section which has the tow bar mount built in. Its a waste of money paying for the VW tow bar prep unless tow bar is fitted at the same time.

Apr 10, 2023 · I would have called it an unboltable tow bar ( you need spanner’s to undo 4 big bolts) rather than what most people would call detachable. It took my main dealers towbar specialist subcontractor two full days to fit my GC 600 retrofit towbar, can’t remember the cost, £850+vat seems to ring a bell including supplying all the parts.

Aug 19, 2018 · We paid VW van dealer to fit a removal tow bar as we have a pre-registered van. We investigated getting one fitted elsewhere but advised that we would need to go to VW to get computer fix for stop start system. It is very easy to remove tow ball and refit.

Oct 21, 2022 · The answer is yes the tow bar is straight forward, however, if you GC does not have the tow bar prep from factory, then the electrics need a special wiring loom. My 2021 GC 600 needs the wiring loom, the problem I have been told by the Van Centre is that VW are still developing a loom for the year model?

May 20, 2012 · The labour time to fit a VW tow bar is 2 hours, to fit the 13 pin electrics is anywhere between 4 and 5.5 hours depending on your vehicle and if you need the extra fuse holder. I would get confirmation from the company who fit it that it will work cheers
