    May 10, 2009 · Just for the record, I had crank sensor (G28) failing with trouble inside the wiring with zero visual wear in the wire. The problem was easy to confirm: twisting/pulling the G28 wiring near the sensor stalled the engine while the engine was idling. An OEM replacement part cost 45 euros and took around 15 minutes to replace on a parking lot.

Afaik it reads engine speed (ie tacho) using a small magnet attached to the sensor that can give off false readings if there's metal or a thick layer of sludge on it's face (the one that points towards the crankshaft).

    Jul 26, 2016 · OK, check codes with a VAG program , code 18072 ( injector ciruit ) and then there is a 128.0 as #1,2,3 & 4 injector status, we were getting 273 rpm,s from the crank sensor ( G28 ) So the problem seems to be with the injector wiring or ECU ?? So I pulled the valve cover and checked all injector head harness wire leads for continuity , all seem ok.
