VR6 vs. R32 : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
Apr 30, 2015 · Ah man. I've got both. My 2003 gti vr6 and a 2004 r32. Both are very similar motors. I've raced my friend who was driving my gti while I was driving my R, and the R definitely pulls a bit harder and is more torquey. Off the line it's also much better because of the traction advantage of course.
Gti vs vr6 vs r32 what's the differance? : r/cars - Reddit
Jun 28, 2013 · Golf R32 is an AWD With a larger 3.2 VR6 motor that made 240hp in the MKIV and 250 hp in the MKV. These are some of the most desirable volkswagens ever made, especially for the MKIV models. The latest Golf R did away with the VR6 motor and used an FSI engine like in the GTI but with AWD and 260hp.

The 24v head can not be bolts to a 12v and vice vesra. This is the V6 engine that the OP is referring too and it is still a VR6. MK4 VR6 R32 - 3.2l, 24 valves, 15 degree angle.
VR6 Reliability : r/whatcarshouldIbuy - Reddit
Jun 6, 2021 · The VR6 engine itself is a big, reliable, great-sounding boat anchor and people say that it's no different in the R32. I'm seeing people say the Halidex system maintenance (oil and filter) is important over and over, and if they don't have receipts you should probably walk away.
Need insight about buying a mk5 R32 : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
Jun 10, 2023 · So, there's someone near me selling a 2008 R32 DSG with 164k miles. It's got some cosmetic issues and minor maintenance needs, but the motor is in good shape. The catch is, it's got a bad solenoid in the mechatronic, which I'll be happy to repair or replace with one of the VR6-capable manual gearboxes I've got sitting in my garage right now.
Are R32's reliable? : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
Jul 4, 2023 · That said, the VR6 engine is a rock solid engine. The issues are mostly two things I’ve seen while driving two VR6 vehicles - timing chains/chain guides and the stupid coil packs. Other than that, usually no major issues. In the end, recommend a pre-buy inspection from a disinterested third party that knows VWs.
R32 is it reliable? : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
Jun 19, 2023 · I've definitely heard that the R32 DSG is more reliable than the GTI/GLI ones, presumably due to lower low-end torque, so it shifts easier almost all the time. But I dunno if I agree with you on the wet vs dry clutch thing. mk5/6 and similar era wet clutch DSGs are well known to almost always grenade by 200k miles. Same applies to Audi.
VW Golf MK4 1.8T vs VR6 : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
You won’t make as much power as the 1.8t when modded (unless you boost the vr6) but the VR6 is more reliable, sounds better, and the bottom end torque is more enjoyable. The 1.8t is certainly easier to work with, but with the VR6 being so reliable, that doesn’t even matter!
Swapping a mk4 1.8t engine with a 3.2 vr6 : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
Apr 27, 2022 · I think the 3.2 from the Audi is the same as the R32 engine. Meaning it’s doable. The MK4 only came with a 2.8 VR6 (24v and 12v) depending on the model/year. The one major thing that comes to mind that I don’t know; is the Audi engine longitudinally mounted? That would make things a bit tougher. If it’s transverse it would be easier.
