Dec 8, 2017 · VPB-101 on the East Coast was redesignated VX-4 and assigned to NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island. VX-4 became VW-2 in 1952 and transferred to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. VW-2 had the primary mission of early warning, with a secondary mission of antisubmarine warfare and hurricane reconnaissance.
