VF-121 (Fighter Squadron 121) of the United States Navy was a former Pacific Fleet Replacement Air Group (RAG) unit. Originally established on 1 July 1946, as VF-781, it was redesignated as VF-121 on 4 February 1953 and disestablished on 30 September 1980. [1]

Dec 30, 2020 · As the first recipient of the big new all-weather fighter, the role of VF-121 “Pacemakers” was tasked to train up pilots and radar intercept officers (RIOs) for the Phantom, as the West Coast Fleet Replacement Air Group (RAG), or schoolhouse for the type.

VF-121 was the first Navy squadron to received the F-4 Phantom II all-weather fighter. Its primary mission was flight-crew training; while it was instructing combat-ready replacement pilots in the F3H Demon and the F-111 Tiger, the new Phantom soon demanded the squadron's full attention.

Her husband, CDR Thomas Sedaker, commanded the Pacemakers of VF-121, and in 1957 the squadron deployed to the Western Pacific in USS Lexington (CV-16). To help pass the time and as an outlet for their creativity, the officers' wives created their own cruisebook*.
