To build a Mu Stage, first choose a triode for V1 = that has a=20 mu equal to the voltage gain you desire. I recommend the 12AX7, 6SL7, = 6DJ8, or=20 6SN7. Next, choose a high transconductance pentode for V2 having current = ratings=20 greater than the triode's.
Pentode for V2 – Cathode Follower stage. Note: Output level is measured at 600 ohm with 6111 while all tubes output level at 100k load are 1Vrms. Thus higher the output level means lower the output impedance and better tube for Mu-stage.

As far as I understand, their main difference is how they sense the AC current that needs to be provided to the loudspeaker. The Aleph uses a current sense resistor inserted at the amp output, in series with the loudspeaker.

May 26, 2009 · One strength of the mu stage is that you don't need high Gm in the triode; the active load provides the Gm to give a low output impedance. Therefore the 6C45 is totally the wrong valve for the triode in my view. I have made an exceptionally good line stage using just a Kimmel mu stage.

The highs on the V6-Stage are surprisingly bright compared to the universal V6 that I tried (there was no stage available to me at the time.)
