To build a Mu Stage, first choose a triode for V1 = that has a=20 mu equal to the voltage gain you desire. I recommend the 12AX7, 6SL7, = 6DJ8, or=20 6SN7. Next, choose a high transconductance pentode for V2 having current = ratings=20 greater than the triode's.

Pentode for V2 – Cathode Follower stage. Note: Output level is measured at 600 ohm with 6111 while all tubes output level at 100k load are 1Vrms. Thus higher the output level means lower the output impedance and better tube for Mu-stage.

Nov 24, 2003 · The mu stage cct has good power supply rejection ratio, so I chose not to regulate the PSU. I'm aware of the various opinions about whether to regulate or not (and I respect them all); but in this application, on balance unregulated seemed best to me.

As far as I understand, their main difference is how they sense the AC current that needs to be provided to the loudspeaker. The Aleph uses a current sense resistor inserted at the amp output, in series with the loudspeaker.

May 26, 2009 · One strength of the mu stage is that you don't need high Gm in the triode; the active load provides the Gm to give a low output impedance. Therefore the 6C45 is totally the wrong valve for the triode in my view. I have made an exceptionally good line stage using just a Kimmel mu stage.

Oct 16, 2013 · 1964 Ears V6-Stage - Most comparable to the JH16, but JH squeaks by with clear, more responsive bass (i.e. double bass drums) and better balanced mids/highs. The highs on the V6-Stage are surprisingly bright compared to the universal V6 that I tried (there was no stage available to me at the time.)

Now here is some photos of the mu-stage with subminiature tubes. The way is to solder the small tube on the bottom of the tube socket and the two triodes in one tube is put in parallel. Insulation shrink tubes is used to prevent short circuit of leads.

This stage combines a triode and a penthode in which the penthode will provide in a optimum load for the triode. This penthode is connected as cathode follower and if using a high gm tube, will have very low output impedance whilst giving the triode his full mu!

This is a new made preamp – Hybrid Balance Mu-Stage. Dual triode medium gain subminiature tube like 6N16B-V, 6N18B-V, 6N28B-V, 6111, & 6021 etc… can be used. The choice of submini tube is due to its low noise and good microphonic effect.
