Lake Urmia [a] is an endorheic salt lake in Iran. [ 7 ] [ 8 ] The lake is located between the provinces of East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan in Iran, and west of the southern portion of the Caspian Sea .

Urmia (Persian: ارومیه; pronounced ⓘ) [a] is the largest city in West Azerbaijan Province of Iran. In the Central District of Urmia County, it is capital of the province, the county, and the district. [5] The city is situated near the borders of Iran with Turkey and Iraq. [6]
