
Which is the better PC speaker connection: 3.5 mm audio or USB?
Aug 27, 2015 · A friend recommended I buy a 2.1 set that uses a USB plug instead. I am not looking for a high end surround sound, just something to play back music while working in a home office. Is there a difference in sound quality, distortion, etc. based on connection (3.5mm or USB), or is this simply a matter of cheaper vs better quality speakers/wiring?

Sep 20, 2023 · A DAC is only necessary if you don't have a 3.5mm jack in the first place. An amp is only necessary if the output of whatever 3.5mm jack you have isn't sufficient enough to drive the headset (i.e., it's too quiet)

They work with old tape decks and with my phone. 3.5mm headsets require that You have a working sound card in Your PC. USB headsets bring their own sound card with them.

You could get an external USB sound card and plug the 3.5mm microphone plug into that, but then you still have possible noise from the 3.5mm connection. It might help because the connection is better and because the external sound card may be better quality than the onboard sound.

Its better for game due to refresh time for sync with screen is much quicker than 3.5mm and movie!!! For music wise GREAT CUSTOM 3.5mm come close to optical however with software in my opinion if i custom i felt and i feel that optical is my pick .

Mar 26, 2020 · The fact that there's similar issues with the USB dongle, and y-splitter w/ Realtek on-board audio makes me wonder if it's something else. However I almost exclusively like using USB connection headsets instead of using 3.5mm with on-board audio, so that issue could have been pre-existing with on-board realtek audio.
