Taiji is the smallest municipality by area in Wakayama Prefecture. Taiji is located on a forked peninsula that juts out into the Kumano Sea near the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula, with a rias coastline. On one side is Moriura Bay and on the other is Taiji Bay.
