Aug 11, 2012 · The pyro is a interesting class - mechanically demanding to play against good players while requiring an absurd level of gamesense to play well. As you know, the pyro is blessed with several main mechanics - fire, the airblast and his other weapons. The pyro, contrary to most players beliefs, isn't really an ambush class.

Because Pyro struggles with Mid-Range combat, Pyro is great at ambushing. Tight corridors, chokepoints, and flanks are your best friend. Despite being labeled as a offensive class, he is good Defensively. He helps fellow Engineers by chasing away Spies, and can easily defend points with Airblast. Spies hate you. And make sure they know that.

Aug 22, 2017 · Airblast swapping pyro is definitely played a lot more differently than a flanking pyro though. You're more on the frontlines having skirmishes with soldiers, scouts, and demomen. Flank pyros typically use Backburner+Detonator or Phlog+Scorch Shot and just flank.

Jun 13, 2022 · Pyro is the counter class, he directly counters everone but Scout, Heavy, Sniper, and Engie. And he has a good chance against all of those too. Additionally, Pyro is a very fast class with enough health to survive a quickscope and a strong weapon that you don't need to aim, and is a good uber target in pubs as well.

Pyro being incredibly underpowered in higher play is the excuse Pyro mains, that made no attempt to better themselves at TF2, use to say Pyro should be buffed, but what Pyro needs is a rework; a way to make Pyro effective, while not keeping him a low-skill class.
