My main take away is tf2 is still alive to at least some degree. I don't think tf2 will be going anywhere anytime soon. Even if valve drops all support and no longer hosts servers tf2 will still be playable with other people.

Team Fortress 2 is not a dead game. It is still ranked 7th on Steam’s most played games list and has a roaring fanbase and active community. However, the developers have stopped providing proper updates to the game for a while, which has caused the game to stagnate and bleed players over time.

Won't last forever though, game's playerbase has been falling for years despite what you see on steamdb. TF2 is not alive and thriving. It is just kicking and screaming on its way to the grave.
