Although birds do not have teeth, swans, like other Anatidae, have beaks with serrated edges that look like small jagged "teeth" as part of their beaks used for catching and eating aquatic plants and algae, but also molluscs, small fish, frogs, and worms. [19] .

The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a species of swan and a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. It is native to much of Eurasia, and (as a rare winter visitor) the far north of Africa.

Despite their size, this once-endangered, now recovering species is as elegant as any swan, with a graceful neck and snowy-white plumage. They breed on wetlands in remote Alaska, Canada, and the northwestern U.S., and winter on ice-free coastal and inland waters.

Bewick's Swan (Tundra Swan): The Bewick's Swan has a white plumage with a black beak marked with salmon-pink along the mouth-line, the black extends from the beak to the front of the eye, the feet are usually a grey-black.

Look for Mute Swans in city-park ponds, as well as rivers, lakes, and estuaries. The exotic Mute Swan is the elegant bird of Russian ballets and European fairy tales. This swan swims with its long neck curved into an S and often holds its wings raised slightly above its back.

Jul 24, 2024 · They have a black beak and legs, with a yellow coloration that goes from eye to beak, sometimes teardrop-shaped. They are split into two separate sub-species known as Bewick's swan (Cygnus bewickii) and the whistling swan (C. columbianus).

The whooper swan is a large swan consisting of a straight neck, a short tail, and a sloping beak distinctly different from that of the mute swan. Compared to the Tundra/Bewick swan, the whooper swan has a pointed yellow path at the base of the beak, as well as deeper-pitched calls.
