A standard 1:10 twist barrel limits you to 200gr roundnoses at transonic velocities for stability. Trailboss is the least dense powder but I have never been able to get consistent subsonic muzzle velocities with it.

Jun 25, 2023 · I have tried 175 SMK in 308 and good accuracy in all twist rates 12, 10 ,9 & 8 barrels 18" 22" 27" & 30".But I used Trailboss powder still have some left ..Trailboss works in everything even in the 50BMG, totally fun.

Re: .308 subsonic I use a 12 twist Rem 308 factory bbl cut to 20" with 147 and 150 subs with great luck. No joy with heavies, other than the 220 Hornady RN. Using an 8 twist 300 BLK, 215 and 230 Bergers were wobbly at 100 yds. These loads were all subsonic, regardless of powder selection. No sideways strikes, but oblong holes in paper.

Jul 15, 2011 · Accuracy will be poorer than with a bolt action, but the main problem is that subsonic shooting at 300 yards subsonic requires the setup time and care for each shot as shooting supersonic with larger calibers at 1000. 308Win. If you have a suppressed 308 win with a 12T it makes sense to have some subsonic loads with moderate weight non-VLD bullets.

Aug 11, 2013 · I gave up on accurate loads for the .308 and focused on a .300 blackout which is very accurate with a slow 220gr bullet. I don't think subsonic .308 loads are good for coyote hunting as they lack consistency/accuracy and don't expand. YMMV.

Feb 22, 2007 · BECK loads an amazing subsonic round, Ive tried nearly all of there .308 loads and the 170gr flat point gives me a standard deviation of about 14 out of the box. Everything else Ive tried, including some developed loads I worked on with copper creek have a SD of 25 or more.

I've ran 30 cal carbine bolt guns with 220 gr bullets, but had a 8 twist barrel, an custom chamber cut. Printed 1/2 moa w/o issue.
