Brora History
The river Brora, a famous salmon water, flows from the foothills of Ben Armine through Loch Brora to the sea, and is indelibly etched in village history in that the name Brora is derived from it, the Norse "Bruar-a", Bridgewater.

Apr 10, 2016 · Strath Brora and its Loch are simply breathtaking! This area of Sutherland is full of history and natural beauty and although I love the peace and tranquility of the area, it is a shame that so few people venture off the A9 to see and experience this Shangri-La.

Strath Brora - Canmore
A farmstead comprising three unroofed buildings and an enclosure, and a head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet xcvii). Strath Brora supports wet heath and Scots pine and birch woodland. The deep glacial trough of Strath Cuil is unsettled and covered with richly diverse woodland.

Strath Brora – earltown
By the late 18 th century, Coiranscaig became well known as the home turf of a pious family of Baillies who ranked high among the laity of Sutherland. One of “Men” of Strathbrora was a Hugh Baillie who was born at Coiranscaig in the mid 1700’s.
