Southern Pacific 975 is a 2-10-2 steam locomotive, built in 1918 by American Locomotive Company at the former Brooks Locomotive Works plant in Dunkirk, New York. It entered service on Southern Pacific subsidiary Texas and New Orleans Railroad in March 1918, where it worked until its retirement in 1957.

Aug 5, 2020 · Southern Pacific 975 is a 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type locomotive, one of only five remaining complete examples built for U.S. railroads. The SP called these engines "Decks" to avoid using the name of a competing railroad.

Southern Pacific 975 is a heavy freight engine and one of only five American 2-10-2 engines preserved intact. This wheel arrangement was popular around World War I but was later supplanted by 2-8-4 and 2-10-4 engines that were faster and more powerful.

There are two surviving SP 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type locomotives. One is number 3651. Number 3651 was transferred to the T&NO and was renumbered as 982. It is on display at TRPA Union Station, Minute Maid Baseball Park in Houston, Texas. The other is T&NO number 975, which is on display at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL.
