Since 1989, the volunteers of the Santa Clara Valley Railroad Association (Now named CTRC) have averaged over 5,000 hours per year on the restoration of SP 2479. This amounts to approximately twenty-five person years expended. To date it is estimated that 80% of the restoration effort has been completed to the locomotive.

The locomotive was SP 2479, currently undergoing restoration at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds. Selma is a little South of Fresno, CA. All photos from the "Key Route Ken" archives !! My parents, Jim & Muriel Shattock, were asleep in their SP Outfit Car only a few hundred yards away at the time of this accident. Their car was SPMW 465.

A decision of where to move the roundhouse components, 2479, and remaining equipment is pending until a museum site is confirmed. All parties would like to have a decision in the near future. Nonetheless, one can not stress the amount of meeting time that has been and remain required between the various parties to accomplish this common goal.

SP Pacific 2479, the former SP San Jose Lenzen roundhouse & turntable has new home in Niles Canyon. 2479 was offloaded from trucks in two pieces and placed back on the track and moved to Brightside yesterday. Reportedly: (sources include Strapac's fantastic SP Compendium series) SP 2479 was built in Aug. 1967 as SP 2479 Builder order number 7997-17, construction number 33139, SP Class ES415-1.

SP 2479 is undergoing an extremely long restoration (28 years or so) that is making slow, but measurable progress with a small staff of volunteers. It is being stored and worked on at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Hopefully they can complete the project before the Fairground management changes again.
