Sonic Triple Trouble (Sonic & Tails 2 in Japan) is a sequel to Sonic Chaos (Sonic & Tails in Japan). However, this was not emphasized outside of Japan due to the games' Western names. However, when the game was first previewed in a Mean Machines Sega article, it was called Sonic Chaos 2, with Fang originally being named "Jet".

Sonic & Tails 2 is the second installment of the popular pairing of Sonic and his trusty sidekick, Tails. Tails is a two-tailed fox that is a skilled pilot and can spin his 2 tails like a helicopter! Tails' real name is Miles Power, a fun pun on miles per hour showcasing Sonic’s speed.

It is the sequel to Sonic Chaos (1993) and features classic side-scrolling Sonic gameplay. The player controls either Sonic the Hedgehog or Miles "Tails" Prower as they venture to protect the powerful Chaos Emeralds from Doctor Robotnik, Knuckles the Echidna, and series newcomer Nack the Weasel.
