Impressive Stuff about Shear Links - Structural Guide
Providing shear links in slabs are not common. However, we usually provide shear links in flat shabs. Flat slabs are critical in shear depending on the magnitude of the loads applied. Not like beams, there are special types of share link arrangement and shear links use to …

Concrete Shear Design
In slabs and foundations, large loading can result in high localised “punching shear” occuring around supports (columns), which may also require additional reinforcement in those regions. See the image below which shows the types of cracks forming in a typical beam. Shear is carried out at ULS only (i.e, SLS checks not required).
Shear is the term assigned to forces that act perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of structural elements. Shear forces on beams are largest at the supports, and the shear force at any distance x from a support decreases by the amount of load between the support and the distance x.

ACI 318 sets out the principles of design for slab shear reinforcement and makes specific reference to stirrups and headed studs. This guide reviews available types and makes recommendations for their design.
Shear Verification WITH Shear Reinforcement {Reinforced Concrete}
Feb 11, 2025 · In this article, you'll learn how to verify and design reinforced concrete beams for their shear forces according to Eurocode.
A simply supported beam of 7 m span carries a uniform ultimate load of 95 kN/m. The beam dimensions are 200 x 450 mm (b x d) and the longitudinal reinforcement provided are 3H20 and 2H12 for tension and compression respectively. Design the shear reinforcement using vertical links. Use fck = 25 N/mm2 and fyk = 500 N/mm2. m width.

SHEAR IN SLABS
Punching shear is a type of failure of reinforced concrete slabs subjected to high localized forces. In flat slab structures this occurs at column support points.
