Which Silky Saw? - Bushcraft USA Forums
Sep 5, 2014 · I am an arborist, using a silky saw everyday and have gotten to use several models they offer. For my professional use, I use the Silky Zubat, which is about the size of the Corona Pony saws, with a blade length about 50% longer than the bahco and felco folding saws. I generally use the Zubat for pruning cuts, and anything 4" or less in diameter.
I think I want a (better) folding saw... - Bushcraft USA Forums
Jun 5, 2019 · Seems like most people who break Silky blades aren't used to the pull saw action, try to use it like a push saw and end up pushing out of line. That, or they use bad cutting strategy that causes the cut to pinch and bind the blade, such as cutting from the top down through a piece that's supported on both sides of the cut.

Oct 20, 2017 · The silky saw's handle requires you to be using your forearm and intrinsic hand muscles to grip hard during both the push and the pull stroke because your hand is parallel to the force you are exerting. Nov 3, 2018 · If you are bucking larger wood, the Japanese tooth design of the larger Silky saws come into their own, though. But then I am onto frame saws. Wranglerstar has a good video of a contest between a large Western buck saw and Silka Katanaboy (I recall) on an 18 or so inch log and it was really no contest. The Japanese saw was faster.

Jan 5, 2022 · The one thing the Silky saw have on a bow or buck saw is speed in deploying it. Walking through the woods looking for dead standing trees holding a bucksaw is not the safest. So you either take the risk or go through the process of folding it up each time. The silky takes no time to have open and ready and then closed and safe.

May 23, 2021 · It's about as long a folding saw as will fit in a pack. I have the Silky Katanaboy 650 (650mm, about 25inches) for bigger stuff. I found one on eBay for $218; they usually go for around $300. There is a Silky Katanaboy 1000 (1 meter, about 36 inches) but the ones I saw online run around $1000.

Silky vs Bahco - Bushcraft USA Forums
Jan 20, 2010 · If you can keep it clean (out of the dirt) the Silky is great. Though I prefer axes, I find myself using one of my Silky's almost as much - some things are just easier. Most used is the "big boy" folding saw, though I think my favorite is the Long Boy pole saw (also have the Hayate for tree work) or the Sugoi 360 (fixed blade saw).

Mar 27, 2020 · I got a Silky for my last birthday that I like a lot, the Gomtaro 240 Pro Sensei 8-14. It's a slim pruning saw with finer teeth on the tip one third so you can saw smaller branches off neat, and without the saw catching them 'between the teeth' which sometimes happens if you use a very large-toothed saw on small branches.
