Shirley railway station serves the Shirley area of Solihull in the West Midlands of England. Situated on the North Warwickshire Line, the station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Trains. The station was opened by the Great Western Railway on 1 June 1908, along with the line.

Shirley lies eight miles west-south-west of the centre of England, its western and northern limits being the Worcestershire Warwickshire boundaries. It is approximately seven miles from Birmingham city centre. The earliest traces of habitation in Shirley were found at Berry Mound, an earthwork covering about twelve acres, west of the river Cole.

He started work on the railways at the age of 13, and spent 44 years as a signalman at Solihull Station. In 1936, he published his memoir, the proceeds of which went towards the Solihull Methodist Church Building Fund.
