Oct 9, 2024 · A scotoma is a blind spot in your field of vision. This condition may be temporary or permanent. Everyone has a pinhead-sized blind spot that occurs where the optic nerve enters the retina.

Misinterpretation of Humphrey visual field (HVF) findings in patients utilizing hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) can lead to delay in diagnosis of retinal toxicity.

HVF: Paracentral scotoma, or enlarged physiologic blind spot. OCT: Early disruption of ellipsoid zone, usually spare fovea. Chronically, thinning of affected retina and RPE. FAF: Hypoautofluorescent in atrophic area surrounding by area of speckled hyperautofluorescence reflects progressing area.

Purpose: Patients with large and dense central scotomas may be unable to reliably complete Stimulus size III (Stim III) Humphrey Visual Fields (HVF). These patients, however, do considerably better with Stimulus size V (Stim V) HVF.

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is the most common mtDNA optic neuropathy. It most frequently causes dense bilateral central scotomas that are often characterized in clinical studies by Humphrey visual field testing (HVF) using a stimulus size III.

Jul 15, 2017 · These glaucoma cases—incorporating 10-2 and 24-2 perimetry, RNFL and GCA OCT and optic nerve head photos—highlight the benefits of 10-2 perimetry in detecting paracentral and VF defects close to fixation in all stages of glaucoma, with special attention to the early-moderate stage.

The 24-2 HVF demonstrated dense ring scotoma approximately 9° from the fovea, with the central area exhibiting reduced sensitivity. Three years later, at her most recent visit, her best-corrected visual acuity had decreased from 20/30 to 20/40 in both eyes.

HVF revealed central scotoma in 6 of 7 eyes (85.7%), whereas a paracentral scotoma extending to fixation point was detected in 1 eye. The retinal sensitivities in 5 concentric rings in HVF were significantly lower (p<0.001 for ring 1 to ring 4, and p=0.017 in ring 5) in CACD patients.
