Sawako Nakayasu is an artist and the author of "Pink Waves," a finalist for the PEN/Voelcker award.

Born in Yokohama, Japan, poet and translator Sawako Nakayasu moved with her family to the United States at the age of six. She earned an MFA at Brown University. Nakayasu’s poems slip between genres and between worlds.

The award recognizes book-length translations of poetry from any language into English published during the current calendar year, and is judged by a single translator of poetry appointed by the PEN Translation Committee.
