Feb 17, 2021 · A=Current Tank Salinity C=New Water Salinity t=Total aquarium volume r=Removed volume of water R=Remaining volume of water D-Desired Salinity (edited) Here's are some examples of it working. Say you have a 80 gallon tank, the salinity is sky high at 1.030, and you're wanting to do a water change to correct it.
Refractometers And Salinity Measurement | Reef2Reef
Dec 10, 2015 · Refractive Index and Salinity Aquarists can use the effects that added salts have on the refractive index of a water solution to determine the salinity of reef aquarium water. As the salinity of seawater rises, the amount of salt added rises, so the refractive index rises. Figure 1 plots seawater’s refractive index vs. its salinity.
Salinity - PSU vs PPT | Reef2Reef
Oct 10, 2022 · An older salinity scale is ppt (10-3), where salinity is defined by “the salt content is the weight of the inorganic salts contained in 1 kg of seawater if all bromide and iodide are replaced by an equivalent amount of oxides” (Knudsen, 1901). In summary, I should aim for a PSU of 35 (vs 35 PPT).
How to raise salinity. | Reef2Reef
Apr 14, 2020 · I just bought a Hanna salinity checker and checked both the water I was mixing and the tank water. For a while I’ve been using a secondhand refractometer, which I’ve never calibrated myself (rookie mistake, I know). I’ve always tested it to ppm, and it’s come up as 1.024 specific gravity.
What is happening to my magnesium? | Reef2Reef
Feb 4, 2025 · Hello all, I have a 120 gallon mixed reef tank. Salinity is 1.026. Calcium is 420 alkalinity is 8.9. Magnesium is 1170. I dose 35 mg of All for Reef which keeps my calcium and alkalinity stable. my magnesium however drops to under 1100 if I don’t dose extra magnesium. Problem is I am dosing...
How to lower salinity in reef tank | Reef2Reef
Aug 25, 2023 · As someone else said, remove some tank water and replace with rodi. If my salinity ticks up, i remove 1/2 gallon tank water in am, and again in pm and let the ato refill. 110 gallons system volume. Check salinity until back where you want it.
Anemone salinity levels and lighting needs | Reef2Reef
Feb 11, 2019 · 1.022 would be a bit below optimal levels, but as long as the salinity level is stable, the nem would be fine. As for positioning, it wouldn't settle lower if your lights and flow were inadequate there. It will move to where it has sufficient light and flow. The main concern is that it might end up in a spot you can't even see it.
Salinity 1.030 good/bad | Reef2Reef
Apr 7, 2013 · What are you using to measure your salinity? If it's a swing arm type hydrometer it may be giving you a bad reading, i.e. micro bubbles on the arm will cause a high reading. Ultimately, it would be best to use a refractometer that has been calibrated with a solution that is at the refractive index of the sample you will be testing, i.e. a SG of ...
Recommendation for a Salinity Probe to run off an Arduino?
Jun 15, 2020 · 2. measure salinity in an isolated container. Pump water in, make your measurement, pump water out. Repeat each time you want a measurement. This is the best way if you want accuracy on the measurement. It will remove all the electrical interference.
PSU, PPT, or specific gravity? | Reef2Reef
Dec 2, 2019 · Salinity (measured in ppt or psu) will be 25% higher than normal (about 44 ppt). It looks like a big difference (44 vs 35) because it is! Specific gravity will barely increase, to 1.0332. Thats less than a 1% increase in specific gravity from that of normal seawater (1.0264). This looks like a tiny difference, in terms of raw numbers, but its not.
