The LSWR M7 class is a class of 0-4-4T passenger tank locomotive built between 1897 and 1911. The class was designed by Dugald Drummond for use on the intensive London network of the London and South Western Railway (LSWR), and performed well in such tasks.

On 5th July 1964 the last operational M7 which, thankfully, survived into the preservation era, performed the last rites for this illustrious class of locomotive and also brought to an end the once familiar sight of 0-4-4Ts on Britain’s railways.

The engines were designated M7, which derived from the alphanumerical order number of the early batches at Nine Elms Works. When the first M7 tanks entered service in March 1897, the LSWR’s suburban locomotive fleet had reached saturation point.

Feb 22, 2021 · Dapol have released an update on the development of their all new ex LSWR/SR/BR M7 0-4-4T along with images of their latest Engineering Prototype. A total of 105 Drummond LSWR M7 0-4-0 passenger tank locomotives were built between 1897 and 1911.
