Overview: Having owned this radio for over seven years, the Sony ICF SW-7600gr has proven itself to be a solid overall performer on all the bands with its SSB reception that outperforms all of my radios (except for the Tecsun PL880). Here is my review:

With the launch of the ICF-SW7600G Sony has made a significant improvement to the receiver and cut the price by around US$50 in many markets, significantly more here in Europe where it now sells for £160.

Full-featured portable – The Sony ICF-SW7600GR ($130-150 US) This Sony shortwave radio is a classic, with solid, time-tested performance, and features to please both the beginner and the seasoned radio enthusiast. It is full-featured, with excellent SSB and exceptional sync detection.

The Sony ICF-SW7600GR is a fine radio. Construction quality is quite good as it is still made in Japan. This is in stark contrast to the quite variable quality of Chinese-made radios of similar price and/or features.

We believe the ICF-SW7600GR is the lowest price portable radio with the sync and line out features. The “GR” is slightly smaller than the Sangean ATS-505, a good entry-level radio at $130.
