Jun 24, 2024 · With an AM/SSB radio, best you use one of the 40 channels. When you hear an SSB transmission, it will sound garbled and the signal will go up with audio. Switch to SSB and adjust the clarifier until you hear normal voice. Most CBers use lower sideband but can be upper. So you know, frequencies below 26.965 are reserved for military in the US.

As you can see from the diagram, on a 4 watt signal, 2 watts are "wasted" on the carrier, with 1 watt on each of the sidebands. Twelve watts into a narrow signal is more efficient making for longer ground wave contacts.. Neither.

Feb 11, 2021 · That being said, I've owned sideband radios through the years and have had very few occasions to use SSB. My Cobra 135XLR base station is a 40 channel sidebander. I've been back on the radio for two months and haven't used USB or LSB once. Maybe that will change, but in 30 years of playing CB radio, I've talked on SSB maybe 15 to 20 times.
