The Leyland Line Antillian (5,608 GRT, 421 feet long) was among the vessels in the vicinity of the Titanic on the night of 14th April, 1912.

Built for the French Line, Antilles was a near-sister to SS Flandre of 1952. Her construction was completed and her maiden voyage made in 1953. She differed from her sister mainly because she was painted white. She was placed on West Indies cruise service in the 1960s. [2] Her career was much shorter than her sister's.

May 6, 2021 · One of those ships was the ss Portland, an 8.5 knot vessel, which left Mobile on March 31st and which claimed to have encountered the Titanic six hours before the disaster and had seen a low lying black iceberg. The Portland is next reported to have arrived at the UK port of Portland (!) on April 24th, and then in Hull on April 30th or May 1st ...

In 1899 the West India & Pacific SS Co was taken over and ran a service from the UK to Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico ports. A Liverpool to New York service was inaugurated in 1901 and joint services to the Mediterranean were operated with G.Papayanni, Liverpool.

SS Antilles was a US passenger-cargo ship launched in 1906. Chartered by the US Army in 1917 for use as a troop transport, Antilles was sunk by a German U-boat on October 17, 1917, resulting in the loss of 67 lives.

The French cruise ship, the SS Antilles was built in 1952 and began sailing the waters of the Caribbean for the French Line in the 1960s. In 1971, the SS Antilles struck a reef near the island of Mustique in the Grenadines while attempting to navigate a bay.

However, despite her close proximity, and the distress signals Titanic raised, the Californian took no action – a mystery that resulted in a number of conspiracy theories.

Apr 8, 2014 · Wireless Operator Phillips has just relayed the message to the Leyland Line's "Antillian" as a favor for the Californian. This warning never does make it to the chart room. The ice is reported to be 50 miles away. Titanic is sailing straight into it at nearly full speed.
