Formed in the 1980’s during the early stage of the insurgency against the Sri Lankan government, the Trincomalee Fast Attack Flotilla formed the main littoral strike force of the Sri Lankan Navy for two decades of sustained combat.

The flotilla is based at SLN Dockyard, Trincomalee, however boats operate out of all major harbors. Individual units come under the direct command of the flag officer commanding that particular naval area it is assigned to.
