Jan 8, 2012 · SBMM - Sterling by Music Man. The import line with a terribly confusing name given that one of the Music Man models is the Sterling. They have a S.U.B. Ray 4 model that is not to be confused with the USA Music Man SUB Sterling.

Mar 7, 2024 · This is the best SBMM bass I have seen in close to twenty years. $799 is a steal for this bass considering it’s quality and tone. I had the Joe Dart for a while, it sounded amazing. Aug 17, 2006 · The 3-band eq is extremely powerful, giving a huge range of tones & everything from thumping lows to seriously sizzling highs. I find the best overall setting is just a little added treble, full bass boost & the mid control in the centre detent. This gives a really nice compromise sound with plenty of bass & just that bit of sparkle on the top.

The new short-scale bass features a 30" scale for easier playability, passive boost, and a Sterling by Music Man humbucking pickup with higher output neodymium magnets and a 3-way rotary switch. The pickup configuration includes parallel, true single-coil, and series modes.

Always been a big fan of MM basses and the Sterling style (slimmer body and neck). This is a great bass that was neglected. I snagged it and began the restoration. The hardware was rusted. I treated the frets and they cleaned up well. The large pole pieces not as much. I ended up painting them with black nail polish.
