Seaboard System Paint – 7 GP16’s were repainted into the SBD paint scheme bringing the total number of GP16’s to 18. The 7 repaints were: 4628, 4634 , 4740 , 4758 , 4760, 4770, 4794 . CSX Stripe Paint Scheme – No GP16’s were painted in this scheme.

Dec 26, 2024 · SBD GP16 #4770 was originally a GP7 built May 1950 as SAL 1718, then re# SCL 898 where it remained until going into the Uceta GP16 rebuild program in Tampa. Later, in the CSX renumbering, it became CSX 1816, left roster and re# UTCX 1816.

Apr 4, 2025 · Seaboard System GP16 #4979 was built February 1951 as Atlantic Coast Line #141 and later became Seaboard Coast Line #729. In November 1982, unit was released from SCL's GP16 rebuild program as Western Railway of Alabama #4979.

Dec 26, 2024 · Seaboard System GP16 #4976 was rebuilt from a former GP7 in June 1981. Original unit was constructed November 1950 as Seaboard Air Line #1732. Unit later became Seaboard Coast Line #912, was later transferred to Atlanta & West Point as A&WP #576.

Former Piedmont & Northern Spencer Mountain branch GP16s traversing rails through elementary school yard. The boxcar was being pushed out toward main after being picked up at a warehouse. Rails were pulled up years ago.

The EMD GP16 is a series of rebuilt diesel-electric locomotives, a result of a remanufacturing program initiated by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad (SCL) in an effort to spare the cost of purchasing new motive power in the late 1970s.
