The German-made M3G Float Bridge acquired to replace the existing fleet of ageing float bridges in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is a high-mobility wheeled vehicle which can be opened up as a mobile platform for crossing waterways.

SAF’s Mobility 3rd Generation (M3G) Raft is well recognised as the platform on Marina Bay during NDP. As it swivels, the guns pound away for the 21-gun salute, as accompanying soldiers kneel smartly in their No. 1 Uniforms.

The M3G Float Bridge replaces ageing bridging equipment and significantly enhances the Singapore Army's ability to cross waterways. Besides providing greater mobility and for faster deployment, the new bridging equipment also offers improved carrying capacity and requires less people to operate.

The M3G offers improved carrying capacity, greater mobility, faster deployment and can be operated with fewer personnel. These attributes enable the Singapore Combat Engineers to offer improved mobility for the 3rd Generation SAF.

This is the M3G military float bridge most Singaporeans would have seen at recent National Day parades, where they were used as gun platforms for the 21-gun presidential salute. Operated by the SCE, the M3G bridge is probably the most visible of combat engineer assets in the public eye.

Today, these bridges have been replaced with the Mobility 3rd Generation bridge, or M3G. The M3G is deployed through a remote interface, with the help of a hydraulic arm. In other words, you can now deploy a bridge that can carry up to three 5-tonner trucks mainly by pushing buttons.
