FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (June 12, 2024) –Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s Red Line service will be temporarily closed from June 16 until the end of August while crews complete several safety-critical construction projects.

Crews will be replacing tracks and concrete at a grade cross at Alfred Street. Rail cars will single-track between Overbrook Junction and Dormont Junction, using the Red Line Short temporary rail shuttle.

Red – While the tunnel is closed, Blue Line and Red Line light-rail service will operate about every 15 minutes through Allentown using the tracks along East Warrington and Arlington avenues during weekday peak hours. Weekend frequency will remain the same but will also operate through Allentown.

Projects within the Light Rail Accessibility Program (LRAP) seek to ensure ADA accessibility and modernize light rail stations along PRT's Red Line. A total of 13 low platform stations are expected to receive some level of improvements to accessibility and access.
