0.251 dia blind hole 1.460 deep - Practical Machinist
Jan 2, 2008 · (12) parts with the 0.251-0.252 hole and (12) with a 0.501-0.502 hole not nearly as deep. The small hole parts hold the punch. Hole just needs to be on-size and parallel with main body. The threads at the bottom are used to fine tune the length of the punch sticking out. There is a cross tapped hole for a set screw to hold the punch.
AN3 hole tolerance question - Aircraft engineering - Eng-Tips
Feb 26, 2018 · CAUTION: hole quality is defined by the hole creation process. Drill bits typically attain+/-0.0020 hole tolerance; whereas reamers attain +/-0.0003 hole tolerances. Also, to be consistent, holes must be finish-match-drilled thru to ensure the entire stack-up has dead-od hole alignment and diametrical consistency.
Fit Callouts for Dowel Holes - Practical Machinist
Dec 1, 2022 · 2) Is there a way that you like to see dowel holes called out? I have also seen callouts like (5mm DIA X 7.0mm DEEP, REAM TO CLEARANCE FIT FOR 5m6 DOWEL). I prefer the first way because I assume it is less work for the machinist and a bit more defined.

General | Need an idea: how to enlarge a hole, but can't get a …
Nov 9, 2009 · Any ideas on how to ream out, reliably and repeatably, about .005-ish from the ID of the bronze bushings, after they've been pressed in? I don't have a bit / hone / reamer the right size. I really don't want to polish 12' of .753 stainless …
Helical milling precision holes - Practical Machinist
Jan 11, 2012 · My preferred method is to spot drill with a 90 degree spot drill to 10.5 mm diameter. Then drill at the right size for the reamer, 9.8 should work. Then interpolate with a 6mm or so end mill 15mm deep or so, just one pass, .025mm under size. The interpolation will make sure the hole location is correct. Then ream to the correct diameter and depth.
General | Reaming a hole in cast iron - Practical Machinist
Dec 26, 2005 · What would be the correct size drill to ream a 5/16 hole in cast iron? The part is 2.5 in. long. What would be a good speed. I just aven't done that much reaming in a lathe. Any info appreciated. Stan
General | Dowel Pin Interference - Practical Machinist
Feb 11, 2010 · .1240 hole would be tight maybe too tight unless pin has short engagement depth.1245 hole is normal press fit but if you have a hard pin in a hard plate I suppose you could try stoning a .1250 ream smaller but if plate is hardened how do you ream hole unless you use a …
Let's have a discussion on position tolerance of dowel pins
Oct 14, 2012 · One dowel pin engages an accurate, round clearance hole. The other dowel pin engages a slot that lines up with the first hole. Now, all your holes can be located to reasonable machining tolerances of Ø.010", you can use ultra accurate tolerances on the diameter of the round hole and the width of your slit, and the assembly will be very ...
General | Reaming Steering Knuckles - Practical Machinist
Dec 2, 2018 · If it's a new built pitman arm blank, then by all means, ream it to size. If you're trying to repair the wear on a pitman arm, the reamer won't work. Same with any of the fitments on the steering assembly. As these wear, the tapered part is sucked further into the hole, until it can't be tightened anymore. Reaming it doesn't solve the problem.
