Revolutionary Girl Utena follows Utena Tenjou, a teenaged girl who is drawn into a sword dueling tournament to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the "Rose Bride" who possesses the "power to revolutionize the world".

Utena Tenjou (天上ウテナ (Tenjō Utena)) is the protagonist of the series in every version. She is a student in her second year of middle school at Ohtori Academy who wears a boy's uniform in order to be more like her "prince".

The Sword of Dios was the first sword that Utena Tenjou and many other duelists used to duel with. In order to access the sword, a duelist must pull it out of Anthy Himemiya chest and this is one of her powers/roles/duties as the Rose Bride.
