Rakalj (Italian: Castelnuovo d'Arsa) is a village in Croatia. It is part of the municipality of Marčana in Istria County. [3] Rakalj is home to a Chair of the Chakavian Parliament [hr]. The old part of the town of Rakalj is closer to the sea, and is mostly uninhabited today.

Rakalj is located on the eastern side of Istria near to the Rasa Bay. Following the road to Barban you have to turn right in Marcana towards Mutvoran. Krnica is the first village after Mutvoran and the next village is Rakalj.

Rakalj je u XIV. i XV. st. bio posjed Goričkih i potom Habsburgovaca, a nakon Rata Kambrejske lige, Rakalj i Barban pripali su Mletačkoj Republici. Ona ih je 1536. na dražbi prodala kao feud mletačkoj obitelji Loredan, koja je njima vladala do sredine XIX. st., o čemu i danas svjedoči palača Loredan u središtu Raklja.

Rakalj je rodno mjesto M. Mirkovića (Mate Balota); memorijalna zbirka. – Istočno od današnjega naselja, iznad rta Sv. Nikola, nalazi se stara utvrda Rakalj, koja je zabilježena u ispravi iz 1312. kao Castellare de Rachir.
