BOOK III Psalms 73–89 -A psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold.

73 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. 2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. 3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. their bodies are healthy and strong. they are not plagued by human ills. they clothe themselves with violence. their evil imaginations have no limits. with arrogance they threaten oppression. and their tongues take possession of the earth. and drink up waters in abundance. 11 They say, “How would God know?

11 And they say, “How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?” They increase in riches. And washed my hands in innocence. And chastened every morning. Behold, I would have been untrue to the generation of Your children. Then I understood their end. You cast them down to destruction.

When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. But their strength is firm. Nor are they plagued like other men. Violence covers them like a garment. They have more than heart could wish. They speak loftily. And their tongue walks through the earth. And waters of a full cup are drained by them. 11 And they say, “How does God know?

Psalm 73 is the 73rd psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "Truly God is good to Israel". In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint and Latin Vulgate translations of the Bible, this psalm is Psalm 72.
