POL Valve. The POL (Prest-O-Lite) valve is the oldest. The threads on this propane valve are on the inside of the connector and needs a wrench to be tightened. A plug is screwed into the propane valve for transporting or storing the tank. POL valves allow the release of gas without anything connected to it.

A POL valve (originally for Prest-O-Lite) is a gas connection fitting used on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. The oldest standard for such connections, it was developed by the Prest-O-Lite company, hence the name. [ 1 ]

The old-style cylinder valve is known as a POL valve, named for the manufacturer that devised it. You tighten the connector of the regulator pigtail by turning the fitting counter-clockwise, and you usually need to use a wrench to make the connection tight enough to prevent leaks.
