Nov 25, 2020 · The Project Classic looks nice but the Thorens + SME is a whole other level. I have wooden floors as well. The suspension in my TD125 handles vibrations very well. If you set a TD160 up properly it’ll probably be fine with your wooden floors. Unless I start jumping around there is no skipping.

Nov 16, 2019 · Belt drive vs. direct drive is a separate issue. The issue with the turntable at hand is apparently an electronics failure. And it’s a type of electronics most Pro-Ject and Music Hall belt-drive turntables don’t even have. I used to have a Marantz direct-drive turntable that wouldn’t run at the correct speed.

May 14, 2016 · For a couple hundred more, you could likely get a real classic: a fully restored Thorens from Vinyl Nirvana. You'd end up with a turntable that's superior in many ways. I'm not normally a Rega fan, but I believe the new Planar 3 is likely better as well. If the best sound per dollar is your goal, I'd look at other options.
