AN/PRC-70 is a modern solid state radio. It is one of the first and few radios, covering as well HF as the tactical band. The radio itself alone is called RT-1133/PRC-70. It is developed as a portable radio, but can also be used as mobile set. Modes are AM, CW, SSB, FSK and from 30 to 76 MHz also FM. A fully automatic antenna tuner is built in.

Feb 5, 2014 · The AN/PRC-70 is NOT as good as most of the military surplus radios available today. It was heavy as sin, and a battery hog to boot. BUT, it was manpack, vehicle, and base capable, could be used on CW (morse), voice, or data in HF AM, USB/SSB, on voice over VHF FM, and worked as a retransmitter.

Two PRC-70 radios can be connected by a special cable to allow re-transmission on two different frequencies. Versions built from 1967 to 1977 had several tubes; from 1977 to 1983 a "single tube" version was standard; and from 1983 onwards a "tubeless" version was standard.

Oct 15, 1990 · The main equipment the Special Forces teams currently use is the AN/PRC-70. The AN/PRC-44 is replacing the AN/PRC-70. The AN/PRC-70 provides amplitude modulated-single sideband (AM-SSB) and FM over the frequency range from 2 to 80 MHz.

Jan 2, 2007 · The first was the AN/PRC-70. It covers the HF spectrum as well as the Tactical VHF frequencies. Harris’ PRC-138, is a more modern type covering these same two bands. It is in use by U.N. Land Force Elements. The already mentioned AN/PRC-113, chart 3, covers both the VHF and UHF aircraft bands.
