The Pinecrest Police Department is a full service community-oriented police agency and one of only seven Public Safety Answering Points (911) in Miami-Dade County.

The Village achieved the goal of providing residents with a municipal police department that has significantly brought down crime rates through excellent community policing. The Police Department was established soon after incorporation on June 16, 1997.

Neighborhood Crime Watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active participation of residents in cooperation with the Pinecrest Police Department to prevent and reduce crime in their community.

On June 15, 1997, the Pinecrest Police Department began full-time operations with 27 police officers and 6 civilian personnel. In 1999, the department became one of only seven 911 public safety answering points (PSAP) in Miami-Dade.

Pinecrest Police Department has the distinction of being a triple accredited agency, having been awarded accreditation by the International Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Florida Commission for Law Enforcement and the Florida Telecommunications Accreditation Commission.
