This is a high impedence phantom powered balanced preamplifier designed to make piezo contact microphones sound awesome although it could be used for any high impedence source such as guitar pickups.

In this tutorial we build the simplest possible pre-amplifier that shields environmental e-field noise and boosts our sound quality very effectively. Note that this amplifier only works on microphone input channels, where — typically — a 3.3V power source is supplied.

These are simple designs for high impedance preamplifiers. They are intended for piezo pickups, and in particular for piezo bridge pickups for (nylon-stringed) guitars. There is a single-channel and a dual-channel design. The designs are in KiCad. PDFs with the schematics, and the Gerber files for the PCBs are also provided.

The Piezo Preamp is a buffer, impedance converter that allows you to match the high input impedance of piezo pickups to the input of your amp or guitar effects. The voltage gain of the Piezo Preamp is "1", which means that the input audio signal will be present at the preamplifier output with exactly the same amplitude (if the TONE is at zero).
