3:14 Forgetting the things that are behind - Even that part of the race which is already run. And reaching forth unto - Literally, stretched out over the things that are before - Pursuing with the whole bent and vigour of my soul, perfect holiness and eternal glory.

What does Philippians 3:14 mean? Paul has used the analogy of a runner who focuses on the goal ahead of him. This prevents distractions and stumbling. Paul's spiritual goal is stated directly here: "the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." As verse 13 notes, Paul's focus is on forward momentum, not prior mistakes.

That prize is mine because God called me through Christ to the life above. I keep pursuing the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly call in the Messiah Jesus. Yet, my brothers, I do not consider myself to have “arrived”, spiritually, nor do I consider myself already perfect.
